Essay Writing
The bane of my school lives was writing those long boring essays. Irrelevant of the language or the subject, long essays in English/ Hindi or the essay type answers in History were enough to send me to sleep during the hot summer days, the cool monsoon rains or the chilly freezing days of winter! Basically, any time of the year, it was a non-starter. So, imagine this: after happily bidding farewell to a very tedious chapter of my life, 30 years later I willingly participate in an essay writing event on behalf of my social club. And the ridiculous joy it gave me on learning I had won the first prize 😊
Though the thought did cross my mind of there being very limited entries… (or the poor quality of the same?) How else do you explain the following nonsense can be a winner of any sorts? But when the off-springs raise the same doubts, you holler and shake your head at them, “Oh, ye of little faith!”
Unlike school, with a word limit of 200 words, the challenge was to downsize your thoughts rather than exaggerating them. Here goes my precious prize-winning entry.
WELL BEING DURING CORONA TIMES
(MENTAL, PHYSICAL AND
EMOTIONAL HEALTH)
Lets work together to beat this virus named Corona, Its all in our hands, you know that na?
We all need to listen to the little voice in our head;
It
knows and says what good for us from A to Z.
Just like the morning cuckoo bird which wakes me up,
Inviting me to my garden with my teacup.
Mentally recharged, I soar with the birds on their wings,
Making it one of my favourite things.
No yoga classes, so I stretch tall like a tree;
Breathe
in deep and release the negative stress in me.
Walk in figure of “8” around my chair,
I maybe going in
circles but I get my exercise fair and square.
Fitter than before, I’ve put to use all my training;
Physically ready to face whatever the day brings.
I thank the creative Gen Y, they are so capable;
Their
online portals have kept me emotionally stable
I see my family, I talk to my friends;
They encourage me
to smile through all odds n ends.
We play games, we dance, we sing;
In spite of the corona, we
are all doing our favourite things!!
